Trend Micro OS Protection is a security enhancement package for Windows Vista users running Trend Micro Internet Security. This package provides two enhancements: Firewall Booster and Pre-Startup Scan. Firewall Booster allows Trend Micro Internet Security to take advantage of the capabilities of the Windows Vista firewall. It enhances your protection against Web threats and unauthorized access. Most security threats, like many programs, run on Windows. Pre-Startup Scan finds and eliminates viruses and spyware before Windows starts – before these threats can affect your computer and thwart attempts to remove them.

Netfilter is a Linux kernel packet filter/firewall. It is the re-designed and heavily improved successor of the previous Linux 2.2.x ipchains and Linux 2.0.x ipfwadm systems. With the Netfilter you can build internet firewalls based on stateless and stateful packet filtering, use NAT and masquerading for sharing internet access if you don’t have enough public IP addresses, use NAT to implement transparent proxies, aid the tc and iproute2 systems used to build sophisticated QoS and policy routers and do further packet manipulation (mangling) like altering the TOS/DSCP/ECN bits of the IP header.

Netscreen series integrated devices incorporating a firewall, IPSec VPN capabilities, and denial of service mitigation, with Unified Threat Management (UTM) security features including Stateful firewall, IPS, Antivirus, Anti-Spyware, Anti-Phishing, Anti-Adware, Anti-Spam, and Web Filtering to protect the network from attack. I’ve installed and manage a lot of Netscreen firewalls. They’re excellent UTM device but if you’re looking for a cheaper option, then Sonicwall also can do the job.
